Hearing Health for Florida Children

Many Miami hearing health specialits that include, Speech Pathologists and Audiologist, are commending the Government of Canada on their recent implementation of Bill C-36, the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

The act will ensure the safety of children’s toys, especially ,toys that are excessively noisy. The Hazardous Product Act currently prohibits toys that have noise levels exceeding 100 decibels due to future loss of hearing. Many, see these levels too high for young children because they run the risk of haring damage. The Standards Organization uses a standard level of 85 decibels as a guideline, which they perceive to be much safer.

A toy that emits 100 decibels runs the risk of causing long term hearing damage for children.  Dr. Chantal Kealey, Director of Audiology at CASLPA, stated that "A comprehensive approach would see the Hazardous Products Act revised so that the acceptable noise level in toys is lowered to a safe level to protect the hearing health of our children. We are very happy that the government continues to work in that direction.”

Florida hearing centers educate the importance of hearing health to parents of  young children. If your children start to exhibit dizziness and or ringing in the ears Miami parents should contact their local New Generation Hearing aid center to set up an appointment.
