People use their cell phones in multiple ways from checking emails, texting, even it's while they are driving, to reading news articles, listening to music, and even video conferencing. But has the age of cell phones and its obscenely apparent usage among society created health risks? New Generation hearing centers has seen the impact of cell phones on their clients and their hearing and know it is becoming a major dilemma.
The Occupational and Environmental Medicine online journal states, “Regularly using a mobile phone for at least four years seems to be associated with a doubling in the risk of developing chronic tinnitus - persistent ringing in the ears, roaring or hissing sounds in the ear” known as Tinnitus, or ringing of the ears.
A study was done with 100 patients who needed treatment for tinnitus. All test subjects were asked about their mobile phone usage and the intensity and duration of calls, era preference, and use of hand held devices. Their report showed that all participants were cell phone users, but only 84 patients were using a mobile phone when their symptoms appeared.
When analyzing the results the patients who used a mobile phone before the beginning of tinnitus were 37% more likely to have the condition then those in their comparison group. Those who used their mobile phones on an average of 10 minutes a day were 71% likely to have the condition.
Miami deafness should not be taken lightly and Miami hearing centers are trying to educate citizens on the importance of hearing health and ways to avoid developing hearing loss and hearing damage. So put down that cell phone and give your ears a rest.
