Hearing loss can negatively affect your quality of life. It is important that you seek the right treatment that will help you deal with this condition.
One of the many things that you can do is assist Audiologic (Hearing) rehabilitation. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) explains how this is “the process of providing training and treatment to improve hearing for those who are hearing impaired.”
This treatment can be done one on one or in a group. A variety of topics are discussed during the rehabilitation, these include:
Nature of the hearing loss. An expert such as an audiologist will go over hearing loss to clear any questions you might have. ASHA states how a better understanding of this condition will help you to know:
· Why it seems that people are mumbling.
· Why you “hear” but cannot “understand.”
· Why you have trouble with female voices.
· Other doubts that may have been troubling you for so long.
Family’s understanding of hearing loss. The audiologist will also discuss with your family how hearing loss can affect your life. ASHA states how “sometimes, the audiologist will play a recording that simulates your hearing loss so that your family can understand better what you are experiencing.”
The hearing aid. During the rehabilitation, your hearing aid will be explained. You will learn how it works and how it will improve your hearing and your quality of life.
