Some Americans ride motorcycles, as their main means of transportation. Although it may save you money on fuel, it can negatively affect your hearing health.
The National Journal of The Royal Society of Medicine (JRSM) discusses the negative effects of this practice on your hearing health, due to constant exposure to the “turbulent airflow around the helmet” known as wind-noise. Various studies have been done placing a microphone under the helmet, close to the ear to measure sound levels. The results showed an increased level of noise around the helmet (about 90 dB(A) at 60 km/h which is loud enough to cause hearing damage.
If you use a motorcycle as a means of transportation on a regular basis, you may suffer from hearing loss.
