Identifying Hearing Damage In Children

Speech-language development in children can be negatively affected by damaged hearing. Early detection can have a great impact in the way a child is able to improve their speech and language knowledge. The negative effects of hearing damage in a child, according to ASHA include difficulty with learning “vocabulary, grammar, word order, idiomatic expressions, and other aspects of verbal communication.”

A child with undiagnosed hearing loss are not able to receive the proper hearing aids. As the child becomes of school age, they may undergo hearing screenings in school. These screenings may help determine whether or not the child may be suffering from loss of hearing.
