A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, has found that one in five Americans, ages 12 and older, are now suffering from hearing health conditions. The increased number of individuals using iPods and other devices, which exposes their hearing to constant loud noise, has created an increase in hearing damage sufferers. Many of whom, may require the use of hearing aids, to help deal with the condition.
Dr. Frank Lin, assistant professor in the department of otolaryngology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and lead author of the study, was interviewed by ABC News. He explained how “ Hearing loss is inevitable in many ways, and a lot of people view it as inconsequential, which is where there is a big mistake” He went on to say “ Hearing loss has a great impact on cognitive abilities and can progressively lead to social isolation and loneliness.”
If you believe you or a loved one may suffer from loss of hearing, it is important to visit your local Miami Hearing Center. An audiologist such as Dr. Joseph Duran will help in the diagnosis and treatment of your condition.
